Animal food has little or no indigestible matter with the result that almost all of it is absorbed from the intestines into the blood. Consequently, carnivorous animals, such as cat and tiger have short intestines. On the other hand, plant based food contains much indigestible matter in the form of fiber and to accommodate and deal with the latter, a greater length of intestines is necessary.
