Heart is a pump with two sections. The right hand side receives blood depleted of oxygen from the body and pumps it into the lungs. The left side receives oxygenated blood from the lungs and pumps into the aorta, the main arterial channel of the body, and through its branches, into every part and organ of the body. Thus the circulation of blood is carried on at every moment of our life. Blood is the carrier of the essential nutrients, water and oxygen to tissues. If the heart stops pumping, the whole body would be deprived of blood supply, resulting in death in a few minutes due to interruption of oxygen supply.
