To overcome the operational difficulties of the carburetor many attempts have been made to design a satisfactory petrol injection system in which each cylinder is supplied with the current quantity of petrol for each working cycle under all operating conditions. Petrol fuel injection system can be classified on the following basis such as combustion chamber injection, fuel injected into the inlet port or the inlet manifold, timed or continuous injection. Some of the fuel injection systems are mechanical fuel injection system and electronic fuel injection system. The fuel injection system has some advantages. The fuel injection system can be precisely matched the fuel to engine requirement under all load and speed conditions, is reduces the fuel consumption with no loss of engine performance. The fuel injection system is relatively free from icing and surge when tilted and also during breaking conditions.
