When the fuel is supplied to an engine for combustion then the heat generated increases the engine temperature and it damages the engine and it has to be prevented. The cooling systems control the engine temperature by dissipating heat into the atmospheric. There are two methods of cooling medium and they are direct cooling method and the second one is the indirect cooling method. The direct method involves in air cooling and the indirect method involves in the water cooling. First let us discuss about the direct cooling. The air is brought in contact with the engine parts. In an automobile, such air cooled engines are exposed to the atmosphere for cooling by the draughts obtained due to the motion of the vehicle. In case of water cooling, water is forced by a water pump in the water jacket of the engine.
