All the four types of the springs – leaf, coil, torsion bar and air springs are used in the front suspension system. To permit steering, each front wheel hub mounts on a spindle that is a part of a steering knuckle. These are the main parts associated with steering and the front suspension. Then the wheel bearings are ball or roller bearings that minimize friction while allowing the hub and wheel to rotate. The steering knuckle is supported by a lower control arm that has a ball joint on the outer end. In some front suspension systems, the steering knuckle is supported by lower and upper control arms with ball joints. The steering wheel connects to the steering gear.
