Water collects in the crank-case in two ways. First, water forms as a product combustion. Second, the crankcase ventilating system carries through the crankcase. The moisture in the air condenses on cold engine parts. The crankshaft acts like a big eggbeater, whipping the water and oil into the sludge. The black color comes from dirt and carbon. It is very necessary to prevent the sludge formation. To prevent the sludge formation, vehicle must be driven long enough to reach normal operating temperature. Suggestions are 10 miles during winter at least and 6 miles during summer. Periodically replacing oil will prevent the sludge formation
