Odometer records the total distance travelled by the vehicle. Usually it is a row of numbers. It is located in the speedometer. Odometer operates by a pair of gears from the shaft of speedometer. Odometer motion is carried through the gears to the mileage or kilometer number rings. These turn to show the distance traveled by the vehicle.
In case of electronic odometer, speed signal operate a small stepper motor which turns the odometer number rings. The main advantage of electronic odometer is the reading is not lost when the battery is disconnected. Thus the speedometer and odometer works on the automobiles.
