Number of valves per cylinder – Engines are not only restricted with two valves, some engines have more than two valves per cylinder. It may be four, five or even sometimes six valves in each cylinder. The purpose of the added valves is to allow the engine to breathe more freely. The added valves allow the more amounts of fuel to enter and the burned gases to exit freely. Thereby, improving the volumetric efficiency. By increasing the volumetric efficiency engine produces more power. From these information, the basic ideas behind camshaft and valve train are known. Therefore engines are classified by the types of camshaft and the valve train.
