In my last post I gave a basic overview of what the ISP is supposed to do, in addition to all that the ISP has one more major job. This is to allot bandwidth for each and every customer of theirs. There are many ways by which they do it. But basically there are 2 main methods and these are the ADSL and cable connection. There are advantages and disadvantages to both the systems. But before I explain that I better tell you what the connections are and how they are setup.

The ADSL is known as the Asynchronous Digital Subscribers link. The main function of this type of connection is to make sure that each customer gets a direct line which cannot be tampered with. Only the user and admin have control over it. this type of connection is usually given through normal copper wires that the telephone company installs. This means that you can use both a phone and a good internet connection on the same line. The advantage of an ADSL line is that you get the amount of bandwidth that is allocated to you all the time. Unlike other systems where the bandwidth fluctuates depending on availability, the ADSL connection remains constant throughout the day. The connection is also easy to implement and can be attached on an existing line.
