A slum boy who ends up winning the who wants to be a millionaire show, but gets accused of cheating in the show. This movie is the story of Jamal Mailk who lives in a slum and finally ends up winning the show after having a very rough life. Jamal Malik and his brother Salim live in the largest slum in the world, Mumbai. They face a rough life when their community is attacked by pro Hindu activists who target Muslims during the communal riots. Their mother gets killed and the 2 kids who are barely 10 years of age have to run for their life and fend for themselves. The story is quite interesting and shows how they suffer and how they manage to overcome the problems. One part that really gets stuck in your mind is the one where they are taken in by a man who claims to be a charity owner and helps underprivileged kids. Instead he uses them to beg for money. There is one point where they plan to blind Jamal because blind beggars get more money. They escape and manage to live life near the Taj Mahal. This story involves a lot of elements which will keep you interested in the movie. The ending is really nice and leaves a strong impression of the movie in your head. This movie won 4 golden globe awards and may win an Oscar too.
