In the last few weeks I have been busy traveling from one city to
another. As a person who isn't familiar with traveling, I happened to
experience a host of situations and have tasted a variety of food
stuffs. It was during one such occasion that I noticed a feature
equipped in most modern railway coaches. These are called regenerative
brakes. Typically in any vehicle when a brake is applied, some objects
come close together and hinder the movement of the wheels. These are
usually made up of very tough materials so that they needn't be
replaced often. Such a system of reducing speed and bringing a vehicle
to a halt is referred to as a frictional braking system.

It must be noticed that a very primitive from of this system is
existent in almost all bicycles. Such a system is almost failure proof
and can be depended upon in any environmental condition. However,
while using these brakes, the enormous amount of energy present in a
moving vehicle is lost as heat which is generated due to friction. In
order to prevent this from occurring, regenerative brakes have been
employed which help store this energy to be used at a later time. They
are therefore more environmental friendly.
