A misleading title for this post I guess, but its not what most people think it is. It’s my recent experience of taking tuitions for a small Korean kid. That’s right; a Korean family recently settled down in my country from Seoul and wanted someone who could take tuitions for their kids. They have 2 kids, a girl in grade 7 and a small kid who’s totally adorable in grade 4. My friend and I decided to take classes for them and it soon turned out to be quite an experience. The first difficulty that we faced was talking to the family, the girl was stubbornly quite and the mother did not know English well enough to communicate with us, we were reduced to talking to the mother through the small kid. While my friend took classes for the girl I took random classes for the boy. The pay was good and the job was simple, I had to help him finish his homework and then converse with him in English. His name was Hyong Ho Lee and it was pretty weird calling him that. Shy at first he wouldn’t talk much but later wouldn’t stop talking once he got to know me. I ended up learning more from him than he did from me. I realized that Koreans were people who maintained a proper standard of time when it came to work. They were also very meticulous and wouldn’t fool around like us at that point of time. The first thing that caught my attention was that they had problems with pronouncing R and L, and they would interchange both. I thought only the Chinese had this problem., maybe all the eastern folks have this problem. more about this later.
