What is a jukebox? Most people don’t really know where this term came from. This term came form the 70’s when songs were played from those old vinyl records that our parents used to have. All these vinyl records were stacked onto a small device that could select anyone of the records and play the songs from that record. This was called the jukebox since it was like a massive box and could play songs.
The jukebox was a massive hit and people would play songs on it all the time. Some establishments started charging a small rate for these songs and ended up earning a fortune. The jukeboxes were huge, about the size of a fridge. Its used quite a lot of vacuum tubes that helped to complete the circuit and produce the required sound. These records were read using a spindle and a needle which was magnetic. The spindle would move only in the groove that contained the magnetic stuff and would be able to read it. The reason why we still use the term jukebox is because we use a single device to play a lot of songs, just like those old jukeboxes. Looks like its something that we wont forget for a long time.
