I'm sure many of you, especially the men would like nothing more to do
than watch your home team play on the television while sipping a cold
bottle of beer. This feeling is almost universal, however I know for a
fact that at such times, you wouldn't even give a second to wonder
where your beer came from or how it was traditionally made. This post
is aimed at enlightening those readers who are not familiar with this
process.
To begin with let me tell you that, beer is obtained from a process
called fermentation by using a microbe called yeast to carry out the
process. Traditionally, before the usage of gelatin a material called
isinglass was used widely. It is a similar substance obtained from the
sturgeon fish. It is obtained by processing the bladder of the fish
and helps to clarify the beer to improve its fineness. When isolated
and not disturbed for long periods of time, beer would clarify into
distinct layers. The bottom most layer consists of slime like layer
of the flocculated yeast particles. However, when isinglass and other
agents are added this process is accelerated many times and therefore
it is desired in the brewing industry. In the final product only a
very minute portion of this substance is present.
