The world has waited for this moment for a long time; Israel has finally agreed for a ceasefire with the Hamas and has pulled out majority of its troops from the area. It has even gone to the extent of letting foreign journalist to enter Gaza to take stock of the situation. This ceasefire will hopefully last, but by judging previous records I don’t think this will last for more than a couple of months. The Israeli aggression started after the towns surrounding the Gaza area were bombarded by Hamas militants causing civilian casualties. Unable to bear the amount of attacks that the Hamas were provoking the government launched a huge air strike and reduced most building to rubble. It targeted those buildings that it felt were supporting these terrorists. A week long air strike was followed by intrusion by ground forces armed with sophisticated weapons, they also had a large regiment of tanks to support this offensive, all of which where equipped with their trade mark bunker busting shells. The ceasefire was most important in the area because the intense fighting was causing large scale civilian damage with civilian casualties reaching around 300. Let’s hope this ceasefire stops and that peace is restored to he region.
