They are referred to as mozzies in Australia and mosquitoes elsewhere but irrespective of the location they are known to irritate any person with such intensity that they can make a brave man squeal with pain and agony. They have the ability to escape being swat as they are tiny and very agile creatures capable of dodging obstacles with ease. In spite of this, human beings have devised ingenious means of controlling their population and preventing them from harming others.

The World Health Organization has come up with a list of precautionary measures to combat the mosquito menace. It suggests that people in tropical places must strictly wear clothes that cover their arms and feet and thereby reduce the probability of being bitten. Another advice given by WHO is to sleep in sleeping nets and use mosquito sprays to check the population of the mosquitoes. The most common type of mosquito spray contains diethylbenzamide which is contained in a base of cream. This can be applied over clear, non bruised skin and is very safe even for babies. This effectively masks a user, making him undetectable by the mosquitoes. Another practice that must be followed to prevent the mosquitoes from multiplying is clearing away of rubbish and prevention of water stagnation as these places are a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
