In one of the most horrific incidents of 2008 the Israeli air force bombard the ancient and disputed Gaza strip in a bid to eliminate top Hamas leaders who were holed up in the holy city. The Gaza strip is the short strip that separates Israel and Palestine. This portion of land has been the main reason for fighting between the two countries for more than 400 years. The Israeli air force unleashed their arsenal of sophisticated weapons to destroy all Hamas owned buildings. The resulting casualties have been extremely enormous and disturbing. Over 300 people have lost their lives and another 500 have been badly injured. This is greatest ever assault in the last 5 years. Israel has been facing a lot of threat form the said terrorist group which have been involved in over 300 suicide bombings and other numerous raids on the state of Israel. The government said that the only way to stop them from doing so was to kill the terrorist leaders and to reduce their infrastructure to mere rubble. The only problem is that the innocent people in the area suffer due to this. Hospitals are full and only take in the seriously injured, the others are refused entry due to lack of space. Mortuaries around the area are filled with bodies of innocent civilians and kids. This is truly a tragic day for the peace treaty that was in effect between the 2 countries.
