I observed something out of the ordinary during my trip to the countryside. All the plantations had a small canal running along side them and they had a constant supply of clean water. Being a thorough city bred person I was amazed at the enormous amount of clear water that was made available to the plants and wanted to find out the reason behind it. Firstly, I wanted to find out the source of the clear water and secondly the necessity for it. In order to find these answers I started off one early morning from the farm house armed only with a torch light and a warm shawl on my back. I observed that the plants that were predominant were the banana and the ginger plants which didn't require as much warmth and sunlight like other major crops.
I happened to walk deep into the plantations and finally came across a bore well. These wells are the only sources of water in the city and go up to three hundred feet deep, however in the farmland, water was available at a mere forty feet depth. This water is then pumped with a high powered water pump and made to flow in a ordered rivulet. This rivulet supplies water to smaller channels that irrigate the cropland.
