India one of the largest democracies in the world and has one of the most lenient government systems ever. People often think that democracy is the only government system that should exists because a democracy respects human rights. Democracy is all about power to the people, power to elect politicians who frame laws and uphold the justice system. But is this the case?

India may be the largest democracy, but one of the lowest growing in terms of economy. You may say that India has registered an amazing growth of 7% per annum. But I feel that this is not sufficient for a population that is the 2nd largest in the world. India may not have a growth rate equal to that of china but it needs to improve. Did you know that they suffer from major power shortage? What’s the use of having industries if you can’t power them? The democratic government is to be blamed for this. each state is ruled by a specific party, and they never get along well with other parties. The problem comes when the joint development of a power plant arises. The 2 states may not agree to anything and this just delays the development of the project. Sometimes only money is wasted.

Democracy also gives rise to heavy corruption. Everyone in government offices need to be bribed according to their level. If money doesn’t exchange hands then your work doesn’t get done.

The problem is that we have to blame the people. A democracy can be the best only when people accept responsibility and do what is required out of them, both morally and physically.
