Dell launched its new studio XPS desktop based on the Intel i7 platform. Essentially beauty with brains the studio XPS delivers an impressive package that includes a top of the line processor, triple channel ddr3 memory, a high end ATI video card, Blu-ray drive up to 2 TB of HDD space. All of this on an incredibly small mini tower chassis. The glossy black finish is a treat for the eye as well as a sight for sore eyes as it becomes a fingerprint magnet later on. Dell offers multiple display options and packs a 24” full HD display as a standard. An HDMI port is also included for connecting to external devices.
The new line of processors from Intel has had some promising early reviews. 3d apps and video rendering show about 10-30% performance boost while other apps don’t see much of an increase. However the power consumption levels shoot up rapidly with some people calling it a mini thermal power plant. It remains to be seen whether Intel can get the same performance to price ratio or performance per watt of the core2duo which was one of its major selling points. Hopefully this new range of processors will be as good as they claim it to be. This is something that Intel fans have been waiting for.
